Advanced Diploma

Advanced Diploma of Youth & Community Work (Christian)

The purpose of the Advanced Diploma is the development of specialised skills and knowledge for Fusion’s Diploma graduates who wish to develop their leadership skills within the youth and community work sector.

On successful completion of the course you will possess the necessary skills and knowledge to lead a team of around 30 people with approximately 300 volunteers in 12 different enterprises.

The aim of the course is to develop theologically informed, professionally grounded reflective practitioners. It will enable you to improve your effectiveness as a leader by using innovative and effective skills balancing theory, professional solutions from a biblical theological perspective.

As with the Diploma, the method of study is workplace based with students accepting a negotiated work placement at a Fusion centre. Each student will be paired with a mentor and will take part in 4x10 day intensives each year for 3 years. Reading lists and assignment work is required for each subject studied.

‘Foundations’ Short Course – Senior Trainee Training

All students undertake training in the delivery of the ‘Foundations’ short course at a senior level and the planning, developing and implementing of training within a Fusion Centre.

Community Transformation 1 & 2

The focus is on building adaptable, sustainable communities based on mutual respect, tolerance, and meaningful relationships through establishing partnerships between individuals, organisations and communities.

How to build awareness, capacity and support from the local community through the development and maintenance of strategic partnerships and the exercise of appropriate influence and providing the necessary information resources and increasing the capability of the community.

How to build the capacity of local and regional groups, organisations and/or communities to participate in and support healthy, growing communities.

Leadership 1 & 2

Learning to lead your team, you will develop biblical leadership behaviour and competence required to lead at a senior level. It covers the disciplines of the heart, the mature mind, the disciplined life, and compassion for others. It is concerned with the integration of biblical insights in developing, communicating and implementing vision and long-term focus, resulting in sustained Christian action within the community. It concerns leading team and individuals, mentoring them to become all God has called them to be.

Managing a Centre 1 & 2

Areas covered include the managing, leading and developing individuals and teams in Centres to achieve the agreed outcomes; managing the delivery of quality client service and the finances, accounts and resources of the centre.

Meeting the needs of existing and new clients in complex and changing circumstances, the development, implementation and evaluation of a risk management plans and the evaluation and implementation of OHS policies, procedures and programs.

Communication & Public Speaking

Applying higher-level communication skills for effective operation in the workplace and the provision of education and information about services or programs for the public.

Youth Work

High level skills and knowledge working with adolescents, advocating for young people with family and community members, other services or workers and the general public and the implementation and promotion of practices, policies and programs providing hope for the future.

The cost of the Advanced Diploma is $50 per week, this includes course fees, travel meals to and from intensives (including meals and accommodation at intensives. A more accurate breakdown of costs is available upon request.
