The Fusion Clothing Connection is the public face of Fusion's
work. A second hand clothing store with a difference, it is the
heart of a network of concern and care for the community.
While the money generated from the store is important, its main
function is to be a point of connection in the community.
The aim of the Fusion Clothing Connection is to build bridges
within the community so that people of all ages are part of a
network that cares for them and provides the support and
resources they need.
As the American sociologist Robert Putnam says, "Research now
shows that social isolation is as dangerous to the health as
smoking." Fusion is working to provide a place in communities
across Tasmania to counteract the effects of social isolation
in our community by helping people to connect with one
another.
Features of the community connection centre are internet
access, free tea and coffee, a community information centre,
book shop and groups for people to belong to; plus the
affordable, quality recycled clothing available in the Clothing
Connection.
In addition to all this, the Fusion Clothing Connection
provides the opportunity for local artists and craftspeople to
display and sell their wares.
It is hoped that people will find a place to belong at the
Fusion Clothing Connection, whether that means joining a craft
group, stopping for a chat and a coffee once a week,
volunteering in the shop or simply donating clothes.
All profits from the Fusion Clothing Connection go toward
supporting the youth and community work programs of Fusion.
